Wagheshwar is the Heavenly divine of Tondavali village. There is a self-sacrificing Shivling in the temple of Wagheshwar. There is a dense forest surrounding this temple at the foot of the hill and around the village. The villagers have seen that the tiger and leopards come in peace in the inner house of the Wagheshwar temple. Earlier, the tigers used to come regularly in the temple. It was as if he had the right place. This place was known as ‘Shri Dev Wagheshwar’, who came to the temple to roam the tiger. Tiger is worshiped in every house of the village. Tondavali, who worshiped the Tiger and loved the tigers, is the only village in the state.

Near the Wagheshwar temple there are two samadhi of the tiger. The tigers are common in this village and there is no such example that Tigers attacked the people till date. The people of this village have faith in the belief that Wagheshwar is the guardian of this village. Even today, all the works, transactions and festivals are celebrated in the village by believing in Wagheshwar. Along with the tiger and the other wild animals, other wild animals also look like Naadi. This old temple sits amidst of Tondavali which is 24 Kms away from Malvan. A Shivlingam located in a cave of a big rock. Lots of people comes on each Monday to worship the Shivlingam. The legend behind this says that in old days Tondavali area was completely under the sea. When a sailors threw his net for fishing it get hooked up. Sailor unable to picked up his net so he kept it and came on next day to search.

He found a Shivalingam trapped in the net. After some year by the storage of sand, a belt of land formed on the same location. The sailors built a temple over the location with their own contribution. On the back side of temple there was a bushy jungle with wild animals. People says that in old days tigers were coming in the temple but never disturbed any mankind. So the temple is known as Wagheshwar temple. Just beside the temple there is a big rock in which a cave of size 80 Sq ft is carved. Many tourists come in Todavali to visit this religious & beautiful tourist spot.This beautiful Wagheshwar Temple is located at Tondavali village of Malvan taluka in Sindhidurg district. The Wagheshwar Temple was erected in 1995 and is dedicated to the famous local deity. The Tiger and the Lord Shiva. It is a cave built out of a big rock and has a Shivalingam. Near the Wagheshwar Temple, there is an ancient temple of Nageshwar. Love wild beasts and protect them, a message like this is that the village Tondavali is giving this generation. Wagheshwar is a village deity of Tondavali village.
